Primitive Heart Box

This week’s project, is a simple one. Simply wanted to give Primitive style crafting a try. I used the Puffy Lid Heart Box from the Creating with Details online store.
I used gesso to coat the entire outside of the box, followed by Tim Holtz Distress Paint in Antique Linen, accented with Distress Ink(s) in Antique Linen & Frayed Burlap.

The “Bower Birds” silhouettes on the base is a die cut by Brenda Walton for Sizzix, using a heavy weight cardstock in evergreen, applied using Matte Modge Podge.

On the lid, I used green gingham material and burlap from my personal stash, as well as the dangling hearts.

A very easy and simple, not over embellished project this week. Sometimes, simple is better.
Thanks for stopping by and allowing me to share with you!

Hey Crafty Ladies! Thanks for stopping by! I stepped way out of my comfort zone on this one, and went Steam Punk! I call this one Wings of My Heart. I think this could be a great Valentine gift or either a man or a woman. I hope you like it!

The products from Creating With Details used in this project are:

Puffy Heart
Stampendous Ochre
2- Floral metal filigree
2- Metal Filigree Cabachon
Antique Bronze tone filigree flower wrap
Antique Bronze Filigree wrap connectors
Flower Antique Bronze Pull Knob Handles
Antique Bronze Tone Filigree flower wraps
Bronze Flower Wrap

Items used from my stash:
KaiserCraft wings
Various nuts, bolts and washers
Small round mirrors
Pieces of a broken bracelet
Tim Holtz gears
Tim Holtz Watch faces
Tim Holtz Swivel Caps
Fleur De Lis
Tim Holtz letters
Bling Crown
Gold Acrylic Paint
Gold toned glitter
Old Key
Mod Podge

I began by covering the entire heart with Stampendous Ochre, by applying Mod Podge to the entire surface and then sprinkling on the Stampendous Ochre.  I then applied a piece of drywall tape to part of the heart and went over that with a light coat of spakling compound. I painted the drywall tape with gold acrylic paint and added some gold toned glitter. I cut slits on either side of the top of the heart to insert the wings which were coated with the gold tone glitter, into and adhered them with E6000. I also cut a hole in the bottom of the heart and inserted the swivel cap and added E6000 there as well. Once all of this dried I began gluing on the embellishments. There really is no right or wrong way to place the embellishments, I just placed them randomly on the front and back of the heart.  The following picture is the back of the heart.

I left the wings in their natural state in the back and added fewer embellishments so the background of the heart could be more easily seen. I really like the look the Stampendous Ochre gave, it looks almost like a crackle finish.

I hope you like this because I really had fun with this project. 'Come back and see us everyday for more great projects!

Altered Puffy Heart

Less than a month, there will be romance in the air, the day that celebrates love, Valentine’s Day, and that is the inspiration this week for my project.

My base, is the Paper Mache’ Puffy Heart found in the Creating With Details online store.
I used gesso on the entire heart base, followed by Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress paint and both Pickett Fence & Rock Candy Crackle. I then used script tissue paper, and sheet music, torn in strips, applied with Matte Modge Podge, and applied at an angle, on both front and back. Finished with using a “burnishing” kind of effect with Tim Holtz Distress inks in Frayed Burlap and Victorian Velvet. Finishing with the same type of burnishing application of the Liquidtex Ink in Brilliant gold.
On the top of the heart I used a fancy bird from my personal stash, as well as pearl stamens glued as a nest beneath the bird. I then added from the CWD store, off-white Braided Ribbon wound and glued to the handle, Lace at both the base of the stamen nest, and just above the dangles at the bottom of the heart. To the top, I finished with a Antique Brass button, and the loops of the Pearl Strands.

Finishing touch, using a brass chain, a heart and leaf charm from my own stash along with Antique Brass Birdcage, Bird & Nest charms found in the CWD store, I added the “dangle”.

Inspiration Cards & Altered Tin Prayer Box

This week’s project was inspired by some unexpected circumstances, and my leaning on what I know is true. My faith in God.

I began with a square tin, used black gesso, turquoise and worn penny acrylic craft paint. I embellished the top of the box with a piece of scrap lace left over from another project, followed by a metal flower, leaf, cross  and heart embellishment, and a wood cut out butterfly, all distressed with the same paints I used on the tin box, and a mini canvas with scripture. I also added a metal filigree, to be a “mock” latch, and metal feet to the bottom.

Inside, features coasters covered with Gorjuss paper, inspiring words and scripture to coordinate with the words. I also used flat back pearls, brads, lace stickers, and more mini canvas.

"Masquerade” Altered Mask

Happy New Year!! Just six days ago, we kicked off a new year, with hopes and aspirations for it to be a great year! The celebration of the New Year, was my influence for this week’s project, an altered mask.

I then used gesso, followed by Modge Podge Matte medium, and paper from the Haberdashery collection by Paper Studio.
Using the BEAUTIFUL  White Venise Lace trim:!product/prd1/3259631871/venise-white-lace-trim---1yd and  Embroidered  Tulle Lace trim:!product/prd1/3259631871/venise-white-lace-trim---1yd - as my main focal pieces to add that elegant flair, leaving the full length of the tulle intact to be as a veil over the mask.

I then used a series of Flat Back Pearl‘s on the “winged “section of the mask including:!product/prd1/3373128581/nestabling-heart-circles-pink-pearl, and using white Flat Back Pearls to accent around the eye’s.

The remaining embellishments included a white large Flat Back Pearl:!product/prd1/3259623461/acrylic-18mm-ivory-pearl-cw42987-pack-of-6  to enhance the antique bronze clip.

On the opposite side of the mask, I used  from my personal stash, both the Ivory Tulle , bunched and gathered with tails, secured by a pearl and gemstone bronze brooch.

So tonight I will be creating an Altered Tin for that Special Man in our life.  This can can be hung up or displayed on a desk or shelf.  What a like about this tin is that we took an originally tin and created a vintage treasure for our Special Man.

As you can see here we applied some hinges to create a something that he could hang anywhere he take this treasure box.

Class Supplies are listed on The CraftStar Google Plus page, but just in case here is the list as well.

Well I hope you join tonight for Crafty TNT with The CraftStar tonight at 5pm PST, 6pm MST, 7pm CST, 8pm EST.
